The
Unique Features of Altitude Wines |
 |
|
 |
The
quality and uniqueness of Salta wines result
from a combination of privileged terroirs,
technological innovation, and the dedication
and knowledge of winegrowers. Vineyard altitude
is a key driver of quality. These valleys
lie at over 1,600 meters above sea level (Cafayate),
even reaching 2,600 meters above sea level
(Tacuil and Molinos). The result is not only
a wide thermal amplitude but also stronger
sunlight and pure, dry air.
The combination of these factors, added to
the peculiar characteristics of the soil and
its components, render wines with great character,
strong personality and excellent quality,
known for their distinctive aromas, colors
and flavors. |

Valles Calchaquíes |
 |
|
 |
In
the Province of Salta, seventy percent of
vineyards are located in Cafayate. Other winemaking
areas are La Poma, Cachi, San Carlos and Molinos.
At over 1,600 meters above sea level, Valles
Calchaquíes is one of the highest viticulture
areas on earth.
520 kilometers of roads framed by a wild landscape
of carob trees and cactuses pass through 2,500
hectares of vineyards. The soils contain sandy
sediments and feature excellent drainage conditions,
guaranteeing the lixiviation of noxious salts.
The vineyards are irrigated by the rivers
that flow through the valleys, the Calchaqui
and the Santa Maria, and by subsoil water
extracted from wells. |

The Torrontes |
 |
|
 |
Of
doubtful origin, the Torrontes variety is
believed to come from the Mediterranean. A
relative of the muscatel variety, today this
grape is grown in the Iberian peninsula and
in Argentina, where it has rendered the best
samples as a varietal. Like the Malbec, the
Torrontes has become an emblematic variety
(in this case of white wines) that represents
Argentina in the international market. With
a very peculiar aromatic intensity, in which
fruits like peach and flowers like rose or
jasmine prevail, it has been developed with
excellence in the provinces of Salta and Mendoza.
The main virtue of Torrontes is the combination
of voluptuous and enveloping notes with a
pleasant freshness, and a frank and long finish.
The balance between acidity and fruit gives
it a sweet taste, although it is not a sweet
wine. Our Torrontes from Valle de Cafayate
is an extraordinary token of the attributes
that single us out in the international scene. |
